How to transfer Creator ownership or recover workspace created by former team member?

Hi Roboflow community,

We’re facing a situation and would appreciate any guidance or official support.

The Problem:

A former team member created a workspace using their personal email address while they were part of our team. They have since left, but they remain the Creator of the workspace where all of our projects and datasets are stored.

What we need to know:

  1. Is it possible to transfer Creator/Owner permissions from the original account to another admin within the workspace? If so, what is the process?

  2. If the original Creator is unresponsive or unwilling to cooperate, is there any way for Roboflow support to help us gain ownership of the workspace?

  3. If transferring ownership is not possible, what are our options for migrating our projects, datasets, and models to a new workspace? Is there a way to:

    • Export and import projects between workspaces?

    • Bulk transfer datasets and trained models?

    • Preserve annotation work and version history?

We want to ensure continuity and retain access to all the work our team has done.

Has anyone else faced a similar situation? Any advice or workarounds would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi Kang!

  1. The creator role is just a signatory for the account who first created the workspace. There is no difference in privileges between the Admin role and the Creator role.
  2. Unfortunately, there isn’t a way currently to ‘transfer ownership over’ or delete the creator of a workspace from that workspace as both the account and workspace are linked together.
  3. Datasets can be imported and exported between workspaces but models would need to be retrained.

Hope this answer helps you out, happy Roboflowing!

Hi Patrick, thanks for the clarification.

I’m actually in the same situation as Kang, the workspace creator is leaving. If we have access to the creator account, is it safe/recommended to delete that account directly, or would you suggest keeping it active to avoid future issues? There are Admins.

Appreciate your guidance, thanks!

Hi mingjai!

I would highly recommend keeping the creator account if you still have access to it.
